The water is icy, the wind blows and the sun often does not show up – the winter isn’t really the best time to visit the coast of the North Sea. Nevertheless many people love this time and go on vacation in winter. Long walks at the beach in fresh air are very healthy and ideally for everyone, who wants to relax from the stress of everyday life.
The nice islands
The North Sea has many wonderful islands like Sylt, Föhr, Borkum or Juist. However, in wintertime you´ll find only few visitors here, because it is lonesome, and that makes the islands so charming at this time of the year. Excursions by boat, a visit in a lighthouse or kite surfing on the beach, these activities give a lot of pleasure not only in summer, but also during the cold season. The small pretty villages invite to go shopping and in the cafés the visitors can get a cup of tea and some delightful cakes.
Horse riding, walking and cycling
If you want to do sports on winter vacation, you can ride on the beach, explore the countryside with a bike or go for a walk in the dunes. Jogging is also a real pleasure, if you are dressed warmly and on many islands there are indoor swimming pools with wonderfully warm seawater. The first deck chairs for sunbathing already are at the beach, and a hot tea with rum is a very good idea, if it gets colder.
Not so expensive
A vacation at this season isn’t as expensive as in summer. Many hotels offer their rooms in winter at special reduced prices, so you can save a lot of money, especially with the family. At low prices in winter, the guests have the big choice: a room with view of the ocean or a big apartment.
If the wind coldly blows and the sea is wild, its the best time for a holiday on the North Sea.
